Penarth Cemetery is both a working cemetery and an important heritage site, requiring signage that balances clarity, sensitivity and respect. The brief from Penarth Town Council was to improve wayfinding and information without disrupting the quiet, reflective nature of the space.
Candid Creative Studio designed a suite of signage that prioritised legibility and calm visual hierarchy, ensuring visitors could navigate the site easily while maintaining an appropriate tone. Typography, layout and materials were carefully considered to feel understated and dignified, supporting a wide range of users including families, visitors and those attending services.
The finished signage improves accessibility and understanding of the site, while sitting comfortably within its environment. It demonstrates how thoughtful graphic design can support place, guiding people clearly and respectfully through spaces that carry emotional and historical significance.
