Promotion through publishing
Alongside my design practice, I’m Managing Editor of View Publishing, producing four award-winning community magazines: Penarth View, Cowbridge View, Pontcanna View and Roath Park View. For more than eight years, I’ve worked at the heart of local publishing in South Wales, shaping content that reflects the interests, concerns and character of the communities each title serves.
This experience has given me a deep understanding of how messages land in real-world contexts. Working closely with advertisers, I help refine tone, language and emphasis so promotions feel relevant and welcome rather than intrusive. It’s about knowing not just what to say, but where and how to say it — aligning message, audience and environment to create genuine engagement.
Editorially, the focus is on finding and telling stories that matter locally. From independent businesses and cultural organisations to individuals shaping their communities, the magazines act as a platform for shared identity and collective memory. Readers regularly keep copies to refer back to, returning to features, recommendations and stories that resonate. As a UK publisher, copies of each issue are also deposited with the National Library of Wales, where they form part of the national collection — forever in the memory of Cymru.
Taken together, this work represents the promotion strand of my practice — rooted in publishing, storytelling and audience understanding. It informs how I approach design projects, ensuring creative work is grounded in context, clarity and an appreciation of how people connect with messages.
